Early Life
Known professionally as Tyrus, George Murdoch was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on February 21, 1973. His father was 19, and his mother was 15 when they gave birth to him.
Being married to teenage parents could have contributed to his having a complicated childhood. Worse still, his father was abusive, and his mother’s family rejected him because he was partly black. Hence, he was forced to live with a foster family.
Despite that, Murdoch had a good education, and his high school, Quartz Hill High School, was located in Los Angeles, California. In 1992, he attended Antelope Valley College in Lancaster and proceeded to the University of Nebraska in Kearney to study to become a teacher.
Career
Tyrus signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment and was assigned to Deep South Wrestling. After debuting in 2006, he started using the ring name G-Rilla while adopting the gimmick of a street thug.
In his debut match, Tyrus drafted Big Bully Douglas. He also re-signed with WWE and, in 2010, was assigned to FCW. He formed an alliance with The Uso Brothers, Tamina, and Donny Marlow but maintained the name G-Rilla.
Murdoch changed his ring name to Brodus Clay after defeating Rudy Parker and Jacob Novak in 2010. In subsequent weeks, he kept on squashing different jobbers on Superstars. The episodes of his return to television were promoted in 2011 by WWE.
Murdoch debuted for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling under the ring name Tyrus at TNA’s television tapings. That was in 2014. He won against Shark Boy in his first wrestling match on the vignette of Impact Wrestling. They entered the TNA World Tag Team Championship, defeating Eric Young and Rockstar Spud in the quarterfinals. But in the semifinals, he lost to The Hardy Boys.
