Adam Ant, born Stuart Leslie Goddard, was born on November 3, 1954, in Marylebone, London, to parents Leslie Goddard and Betty Kathleen Smith. When Adam was seven years old, his parents divorced, leading him to face challenges during his late childhood. However, he found solace and discovered his artistic capabilities under the guidance of his teacher, Joanna Saloman.
Initially studying graphic design at the Hornsey College of Art, Adam Ant first explored music during this time. Eventually, he dropped out of college to join the band “Bazooka Joe” as a bass guitarist. However, after witnessing a performance by the Sex Pistols, Adam decided to leave the band and form his own group called B-Sides.
Despite battling anorexia and undergoing hospitalization, Adam Ant reunited with former B-Sides members Lester Square and Andy Warren after his recovery. Along with drummer Paul Flanagan, they formed “Adam and the Ants” in 1977. The band remained active until 1982, releasing three studio albums: “Dirk Wears White Sox” (1979), “Kings of the Wild Frontier” (1980), and “Prince Charming” (1981).
After the disbandment of “Adam and the Ants,” Adam pursued a solo career and achieved remarkable success. Between 1980 and 1983, he scored 10 UK top-ten hits and three number ones. He gained immense popularity in the United States and was even voted the sexiest man in America by MTV’s viewers. Additionally, Adam Ant explored acting, appearing in over two dozen films and television episodes from 1985 to 2003.
