Sir David Frederick Attenborough is an English broadcaster, biologist, natural historian, and author. He was married to Jane Elizabeth Ebsworth Oriel in 1950, until her death in 1997 due to a brain hemorrhage. Sir David has publicly expressed his grief over his loss, stating in his 2002 memoir Life On Air that he felt lost without her. The couple had two children together, a son named Robert and a daughter named Susan.
Robert has followed in his father's footsteps and is now a senior lecturer in bioanthropology for the School of Archaeology and Anthropology at the Australian National University in Canberra.

Attenborough was a senior manager at the BBC, holding the position of controller of BBC Two and director of programming for BBC Television in the 1960s and 1970s.
He became prominent as the host of Zoo Quest in 1954 and has since worked as a writer, presenter, and narrator in filmography spanning eight decades, including documentaries such as Natural World, Wildlife on One, and the Planet Earth franchise, among others.
Attenborough is the only person to have won BAFTA Awards in black and white, color, high-definition, 3D, and 4K resolution, and he has collected numerous honorary degrees and awards, including three Emmy Awards for Outstanding Narration.
While Attenborough's earlier work focused on the wonders of the natural world, his later work has been more vocal in support of environmental causes. He has been an advocate for planetary biodiversity restoration, limiting population growth, switching to renewable energy, mitigating climate change, reducing meat consumption, and setting aside more areas for natural preservation.

Attenborough is widely considered a national treasure in the UK, though he himself dislikes the term. He is the younger brother of the late Richard Attenborough, a director, producer, and actor, and the older brother of the late motor executive John Attenborough.
