SCART connections are still fairly common in Europe as a method of connecting AV components. Although it is being used less, you may well find your AV equipment still has one of these. However, they are being replaced by the introduction of digital technology and connection types such as HDMI and DVI.
Is SCART obsolete?
The SCART has been replaced by HDMI which gives you better image quality when you connect them to HD devices. Tip: Newer TVs will usually have a SCART port but if there isn't one, you can buy a SCART to HDMI converter.
When did SCART become obsolete?
The SCART connector first appeared on TVs in 1977. It became compulsory on new TVs sold in France from January 1980, and since 1989/1990 in eastern Europe, such as Poland. The actual French legal decree was adopted on 7 February 1980 and revoked on 3 July 2015.
