I just worked in a house last week where the original installer ran an ~6' cat5 jumper from a ubiquiti POE injector to a coupler, then another ~6' jumper to another coupler, then to the cat5 that fed to the attic to the access point. It worked. Yes.

Can you splice a POE cable?

12 Replies. POE will work just fine with a regular coupler. It's not ideal, of course, but it does work. I do like to make sure it's a Cat5e or Cat6 coupler and not just a phone coupler.

Do all Ethernet cables support Poe?

It depends which category cable you have. CAT5E and higher will support PoE on all voltages. CAT5 will support lower voltages too. Anything lower is not recommended.
