A boy as young as 3 can be taught to clean under his foreskin as a normal part of his hygiene. When a boy reaches puberty, he needs to clean under his foreskin every day. If your son's foreskin does not fully retract by the time he reaches puberty, call your doctor for advice.
How often do you clean uncircumcised?
Avoid getting a sore penis
Washing your penis too much with soap and shower gels can cause soreness. To wash your penis once a day with warm water and then dry it gently is enough to maintain good hygiene. If you want to use soap, choose a mild or non-perfumed soap to reduce the risk of skin irritation.
Do you need to pull foreskin back to clean?
You don't need to pull it back for cleaning. If your son does pull back his foreskin while he's having a bath or shower, that's fine – but he doesn't need to do this. Once your son goes through puberty and he can easily pull back his foreskin, you should encourage him to do so for cleaning while in the bath or shower.
