Baric Tablets (buy here) is a Montessori Sensorial Material, meant to isolate one particular sense to further its development. Here, the tactile sense of touch is being stimulated. Baric Tablets come in a wooden box with three compartments each containing seven wooden tablets, finished with non-toxic paint.

How do you present Baric tablets?

Then bring the child over to the shelf and show him the first two boxes (the lightest and heaviest) with the baric tablets. Give the child the name of the material and then have him bring over one box at a time to the table. Have him place both boxes next to each other and in the upper middle of the table.

What is a Baric sense?

In Montessori, we teach children how to differentiate between different weights by using their tactile sense with special equipment, called Baric tablets. Baric tablets are wooden tablets that are the same size, but different in weight and colour.
