How Does Spongostan Work?

How Does Spongostan Work?

Spongostan absorbable hemostatic gelatin sponge is a sterile, water-insoluble, malleable sponge intended for hemostatic use by applying to a bleeding surface. Spongostan will create a barrier together with fibrin which will stop the bleeding in 2–10 minutes and will be completely resorbed in 4–6 weeks.

Does Spongostan need to be removed?

Spongostan™ should be removed from the body to avoid the possibility of dislodgement of the device or compression of other nearby anatomic structures. SealFoam® can be used on patients with porcine allergies as SealFoam® contains no animal components.

What is Spongostan used for?

SPONGOSTAN™ Sponge, used dry or saturated with sterile saline solution, is indicated for surgical procedures (except ophthalmic) for haemostasis, when control of capillary, venous and arteriolar bleeding by pressure, ligature and other conventional procedures is ineffective or impractical.
