The International Building Code has established doorknob height between 34 and 48 inches above a finished floor. Installers typically drill the hole centered 36 inches above the floor — if not specifically instructed to do so differently.

How high should a door handle be UK?

The most common height for a door handle is 1000mm from the floor. If you pick this height it’s best to stick with it around the house for all internal doors, for convenience and for aesthetics too. Standard UK regulations say door handles must be installed between 900mm and 1050mm off the floor.
