Lamp sockets are easy; to replace.
Step 1: Disassemble the Lamp. Unplug the lamp from the electrical outlet so it is getting no power. Step 2: Remove the Socket. Step 3: Connect the New Socket. Step 4: Reassemble the Lamp.
There are two common socket types, which are the classic screw socket (Edison) and the pin socket. All replacements are 1:1 possible without any mechanical or electrical adjustments.

You can rewire a lamp easily by yourself. The process is simple and requires you to cut the old cord from the root and replace it with a new one. The replacement process shouldn’t take long.
The cost to repair lamps varies depending on the components and the type of lamp. Most single socket table lamps cost around $16 to $20.00 for full rewiring. Each lamp is different, so the cost may differ.
Depending on the age of the lamp, you may have to bring in new wires too. This is because different bulbs may have different wiring systems and if the existing system does not perfectly fit in then you will have to rewire your antique lamp as well. Electrical faults do and can occur at any given time.
Make the Wire Connections
One wire end is “hot”; the other, which is ridged, is considered “neutral.”
The first step is disassembling the lamp. Cut three lengths of lamp wire to the desired length. Run the lamp cords up through the base of the lamp and from the bulb socket locations. Connect the lamp sockets to the lamp cords. Connect the lamp wires inside the lamp housing with wire nuts.
Medium or Standard: E26 (26 mm in diameter) is the size of the majority of light bulbs used in the United States. Mogul: E39 (39 mm in diameter) is utilized for street lights and high-wattage lamps.
Light Bulb Base Identification
There are many light bulb base sizes available. PartyLights.com carries the three most common base sizes used in decorative string lights. On our website, we refer to our bulbs and string lights as C7, C9, and Medium.
E26 is the size of most light bulbs used in the U.S. It’s referred to as having a “medium” or “standard” base. E12 is the smaller “candelabra” base. It’s used for nightlight bulbs, and sometimes for decorative light bulbs used in chandeliers and over bathroom mirrors.
