Beach is open for swimming, sunbathing, sitting, beach combing, hiking, exercise, and fishing. Hiking and biking trails are open. Herbert Bateman Visitor Center, Refuge Trek and Assateague Lighthouse remain closed.

Is it safe to go to Chincoteague Island?

Consistent with CDC guidance, Virginia does not have any current quarantine requirements for U.S. citizens arriving from outside the Commonwealth, making our area the perfect getaway. Chincoteague Island, with its friendly, small community, wild ponies, and pristine beaches, is always good for a visit.

Is Assateague Island Open right now?

Open year round, 24 hours a day. As of June 12, 2021: Visitor Center is open daily from 9 am - 4 pm.
