Were Is Loch Morlich?

Is Loch Morlich safe?

The blue-green algae, which has been found at Loch Morlich, is toxic to dogs and can cause humans to vomit. Highland Council has warned people day-tripping to the loch to avoid all contact with the algal scum which can have "adverse medical effects".

Why is there sand at Loch Morlich?

The sand contains large amounts of glass which dates back to WW2 when the lake was a commando school training ground for the Kompani Linge (Norwegian Independent Army Company trained by British Special Operatives). There's a memorial to these fighters at the nearby Visitor Centre.
