Which Side Is Piriformis?

Piriformis is a flat muscle and is one of the hip lateral rotators. The origin is on the anterior side of the sacrum and has an insertion at the superior aspect of the greater trochanter of the femur. The piriformis muscle is running over the top of the sciatic nerve.

Where do you feel pain with piriformis syndrome?

Symptoms and signs

The typical patient with piriformis syndrome complains of "sciatica" — that is, sharp, severe, radiating pain from the lower back or buttock down the back of the leg and into the thigh, calf, and foot.

Is sciatic nerve on right or left?

The five nerve roots come together to form a right and left sciatic nerve. On each side of your body, one sciatic nerve runs through your hips, buttocks and down a leg, ending just below the knee. The sciatic nerve then branches into other nerves, which continue down your leg and into your foot and toes.
