On November 24, 2023, news emerged that Derek Chauvin had reportedly been stabbed at a federal prison in Arizona by another inmate. An anonymous source confirmed that the ex-cop was rushed to the hospital afterward, per the Associated Press. The source also said the attack occurred at the Tuscon Federal Correctional Institution.

Who is Derek Chauvin married to?

Former policeman Derek Chauvin, who was a member of the Minneapolis Police Department from 2001 to 2020, has been married once – at least publicly.

At age 34, he tied the knot with his then-wife, Kellie Chauvin, who was aged 36 at the time.

Derek married Kellie in 2010 after the pair met and fell in love while she was working as a radiologist at a hospital.

She told the St Paul Pioneer Press that they met when he dropped off a suspect at a Minneapolis hospital where she worked.

The pair were married for more than a decade before they split.

When Derek was found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd, his wife, Kellie divorced him shortly after.

“Have I been in contact with him? No, I’ve moved on,” Kellie told the Mail.

She said she hasn’t been able to find work or resume her career as a Realtor because of threats and her own fear of exposure over the case.

Kellie, who now lives in a quiet Wisconsin suburb, said the ordeal “ruined my life.

“But I’m doing good. It’s just something that you have to deal with,” she said.

Asked if she thought her ex-husband of 10 years was a racist, the former Mrs. Minnesota America pageant winner refused to answer.

“’I think you’re trying to get into some questions that I don’t want to answer,” she said, just before she retreated inside the home she shares with one of her grown sons. “I’m sorry, I can’t say more.”

She changed her name to try to distance herself from the case even more, the Mail said, without revealing her new moniker or hometown.

Currently in jail serving his sentence of 22.5 years, Derek Chauvin is not married or in any relationship as he’s believed to be single.
