Paul Bethany named his son Stellan after his close friend and fellow actor, Stellan Skarsgard. The two men have been very close for many years and have appeared in more than a couple of films together since the early 2000s.

Beyond acting, Stellan Bethany has always been in love with music, something that his father was first interested in before switching to acting. According to Paul, he once thought he was the musician in the family until he had Stellan, who he described as a musical prodigy. He described his son as someone who experiences music from a different dimension.
