John Pelletier is the current Chief of Police of the Maui Police Department in Hawaii. He was appointed to the position in December 2021, after serving as a captain in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for more than 20 years. He is also a graduate of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and the FBI National Academy.

John Pelletier was born in Buffalo, New York. His mother was a schoolteacher and his father was a police sergeant. His stepmother later became the deputy police commissioner for the Buffalo Police Department. He moved around the country, living with family in California, Florida, and New York before settling in Las Vegas when he was 17.
Career & Profession
John Pelletier joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1999 and rose through the ranks to become a captain in 2020. He was in charge of the narcotics program and also oversaw several high-profile cases, such as the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in 2017 and the investigation into Stephen Paddock, the gunman who killed 58 people and injured hundreds more.
In October 2021, John Pelletier was selected by the Maui Police Commission as the final candidate to be the new chief of the Maui Police Department, out of five finalists who were interviewed. He was officially sworn in as the chief on December 15, 2021.
