Kai Sotto is a professional basketball player from the Philippines who followed in his father, Ervin’s, footsteps. But, unlike his father, he did not just play for the national team, but also represented the Adelaide 36ers in the Australian National Basketball League.
He is the center of the court, at seven feet and two inches tall. On April 28, he declared for the NBA Draft in 2022. However, when he signed the contract with Adelaide, he gave the player a two-year contract with an option for a third year.
He was spotted working out with the Sacramento Kings ahead of the draft. The team included him among the gym’s possibilities.
Kai Sotto’s Father Ervin Sotto
Kai’s father, Ervin Sotto, is a former Filipino basketball player. In the 2004 PBA draft, he was chosen ninth by the Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs. He formerly played for the Shell Turbo Chargers, Barangay Ginebra Kings, and the Air21 Express, Alaska Aces before joining the NLEX Road Warriors camp.
Sotto was one of the league’s most promising big men, and he was known for his outside shooting abilities. He then became an assistant coach for the NLEX Road Warriors.
He also played for Vietnam’s national basketball team in the 2003 Southeast Asian Games. Following the match, he was awarded the gold medal. In addition, he was awarded PBA champion in the 2010 PBA Fiesta Conference.
Nonetheless, Ervin may serve as an inspiration for his son Kai to pursue a career in athletics. As a father, he may have taught his children certain tricks and assisted with training.
