According to the Twitter account for Netflix, the lack of blinking that occurred on Wednesday was not intentional.
It all started when Burton saw Ortega do “one take where she didn’t blink,” and he was “so impressed with the outcome” that he told the actor to not blink for the rest of the film.

When Jenna made an appearance on The Today Show on November 21, she confirmed this tidbit of information herself for viewers at home.
Ortega described Wednesday by saying, “She doesn’t blink.” She went on to explain that “[Tim Burton] likes it when I tilt my chin down and gaze through my eyebrows, kind of like a Kubrick stare,” and that after she does that, she relaxes all of the muscles in her face.
For your information, the expression known as a “Kubrick stare” describes the manner in which an actor looks hard at the camera while simultaneously furrowing their brows.
Stanley Kubrick, the director most recognized for his thrillers The Shining and A Clockwork Orange, is credited with popularizing the look. Kubrick is credited with making the look iconic.
Since Tim Burton does not like the act of blinking, many of the characters in his films do not blink at all.
In an interview with Yahoo! that took place in 2016, the director admitted that he is unsure of the reason(s) for his aversion to blinking.
He said to the person conducting the interview, “Even when you’re mentioning it now, it worries me out.”
Wednesday is “supernaturally endowed,” which means that it’s probable that she doesn’t need to close her eyes even if it may feel impossible for the normal person to spend more than a minute without blinking.
