Reported by Deadline in early April, A24 has locked down Lily-Rose Depp, Hoyeon, and Renate Reinsve to star in "The Governesses," an exciting (and adult-themed) story of three governesses who act as a force of change in their employer's household. As Deadline puts it, the titular trio "upend the household they work in — inspiriting the minds of the boys in their care, igniting the imaginations of the bohemian couple who employ them, and abandoning their charges for erotic adventures."

The movie's plot appears to, by and large, follow Anne Serre's novel of the same name from which it is adapted. Per a 2018 review of the book from The New York Times, "The Governesses" follows the three governesses (Inès, Laura, and Eléonore), whose suggestive and carefree antics repeatedly disrupt the mundanity of life both inside and outside the family household. Unfortunately, no information exists on which of the governesses Depp, Hoyeon, and Reinsve will play.

According to Deadline, Joe Talbot will direct the film. This is his second project in collaboration with A24 following the acclaimed "The Last Black Man in San Francisco." Talbot co-adapted Serre's novel with poet and writer Olivia Gatewood. "The Governesses" is co-financed by BBC Film and A24, the latter of which is also responsible for the film's global release. Producers on this project include Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures, along with Rob Richert of Talbot's Longshot Features and Angus Lamont.

A24 has yet to reveal a release date for the project, though there are plans to film in Spain at an unspecified time in the future.
