If you are at all familiar with Outlander, the television series based on the series of novels of the same name, you will know that it has filmed all over Scotland during its nine years on the air.

The historical fantasy drama sees protagonist Claire Randall transported back in time to 1743, where she meets and falls in love with Highland warrior Jamie Fraser.

Across its six seasons, both famous and little-known Scottish spots have been used as a backdrop for the popular series. Whether it is a historic town that looks straight out of the 18th century, or a creepy rock formation said to have been used by the Devil himself, watch any given episode and you are likely to see a Scottish spot worth visiting.

For example, the fifth episode of the most recent series sees Claire and Jamie meet real-life Scottish hero Flora MacDonald. The scenes in which the important meeting take place were in fact filmed at Kinross House in Kinross-shire.

The grand country house, which dates back to the 17th century, was the perfect spot to shoot the opulent event seen in the show. It retains much of its original decoration, and is classed as a Category A listed building.

Laying at the centre of a 100-acre estate, the grounds offer woodland walks, "magnificently landscaped gardens", and manicured lawns that overlook the scenic Loch Leven. It even includes the private Loch Leven Castle Island, famous for being the island where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in the 16th century.

If you are looking to following in the footsteps of your favourite Outlander characters, you will be pleased to hear that you can in fact stay at Kinross House yourself.

The estate includes 24 double bedrooms, accommodating up to 48 guests, with the main house consisting of 14 feature en-suite bedrooms. There is also a separate Coach House that offers a further 10 individually designed en-suites.

Described on its website as "the architectural jewel in Scotland’s crown", Kinross House is available on a strictly limited basis for exclusive use. The secluded retreat can be rented out for holidays, corporate retreats, family get-togethers, special occasions, and other private events.

Another highlight of Kinross House is The Coach House Spa, which "promises state-of-the-art facilities and treatments set within spectacular grounds". Facilities include "charming cottage-style treatment" rooms, a hydrotherapy pool, a sauna, a relaxation room, and a double station nail bar.

The spa, which can be booked separately from accommodation on the estate, offers treatment such as massages, facials, aromatherapy, and reflexology.
