Manuel Peter Neuer was born on March 27, 1986, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. He is the youngest of two sons of Peter Neuer and Marita Neuer. His father Peter was a policeman, who was later transferred from Baden-Württemburg in Germany’s south-west to Gelsenkirchen after his birth. He has an elder brother named Marcel Neuer.

Neuer pursued his education at Gesamtschule Berger Feld in his hometown. He started playing football at an early age and already reached the professional level in his school days.

Manual started his youth career from Schalke 04 in 1991. He signed professional terms with the team in 2005 and made his Bundesliga debut on matchday 2 of the 2006–07 season. He played there until 2011, winning the DFB-Pokal and DFB-Ligapokal. In 2011, he signed for Bayern Munich, where he won 18 major trophies that includes seven Bundesliga titles and a UEFA Champions League.
