Shannon Bream’s birth occurred two days to Christmas, on December 23, 1970, in the U.S. southern state of Florida. She was born Shannon Noelle DePuy to mother Marie Norris and father Ed DePuy. Marie was a school teacher while Ed was noted as once being a County Commissioner. He was also a former US Marine and police officer.

In her 2019 book titled Finding The Bright Side: The Art of Chasing What Matters, Shannon talks about the strict home training she received as a child. She noted that she resented it at the time but is now very grateful for it today. Her mom, who proudly hung a notice in their kitchen that read: ‘THE MEANEST MOM IN THE WORLD’, was often disciplining her both at home and while she was in grade school. It came to a point that Shannon planned to run away but her plan got busted.
