Ricky Dene Gervais was born on June 25th of 1961. He was born in Reading, England. He was raised as the youngest child in his family. Following his secondary school, Ricky Gervais attended University College London, earning a degree in philosophy. There he met Jane Fallon, his life partner since 1982.

Around this time he also started a band called Seona Dancing with his college friend Bill Macrae. They were signed by London Records in 1983 and tried to become pop stars. They only had two singles, both failed to hit the UK charts.
