How to fix Opera not working in Windows 11?
1. Update your browser
- Open the Opera menu by clicking on the ‘O’ in the top left corner.
- Click on Update & Recovery.
- If there are any updates available, then update Opera.
- Relaunch your browser.
Be sure to stay up to date on all Opera updates to avoid running into any issues.
2. Disable add-ons
- Open the Opera menu by clicking on the ‘O’ in the top left corner.
- Click on Extensions, then select Extensions again.
- Go through and disable all of your add-ons. If the issue is fixed then it was due to a faulty add-on.
- To find the problematic add-on, enable the add-ons one at a time to see which one is causing the issue.
- Remove the faulty add-on by clicking the ‘X’ in the corner of the extension.
Add-ons are a great way to customize your browser, but some might negatively impact the way your browser operates.
3. Disable ad-blocker
- Open the Opera menu by clicking on the ‘O’ in the top left corner.
- Click on Settings.
- Under Privacy protection disable the Block ads feature.
There are some websites that won’t load if an ad-blocker is enabled. If you were having issues with a particular webpage being unable to load, disable the ad-blocker and then reload the page. You can customize which sites you want the ad-blocker turned off for.
4. Clear browser cache
- Open the Opera menu by clicking on the ‘O’ in the top left corner.
- Click on Settings.
- Scroll down until you see Security and Privacy or click on Advanced in the side menu and select Privacy & Security.
- Click on Clear browsing data, then make sure all of the boxes are selected.
- Select Clear data.
- Relaunch Opera.
Sometimes your browsing data and cache can cause Opera to slow down or stop responding. This is more likely to be the issue if the cache hasn’t been cleared in a while.
5. Reset Opera to default
- Open the Opera menu by clicking on the ‘O’ in the top left corner.
- Click on Update & Recovery.
- Under the Recovery section, select Recover.
- Choose between keeping your data and reseting, or deleting everything and reseting.
- Select Recover.
6. Re-install Opera
- First you need to uninstall Opera. In the Start menu search for the Control Panel and hit enter.
- Under Programs click Uninstall a program.
- Locate Opera in the list of programs and select it then click Uninstall.
- After following the prompts to remove Opera, open Microsoft Store and search Opera.
- Install Opera onto your PC.
- Recover your data from your back-up folder.
Hopefully, it doesn’t come to this solution, but if none of the previous steps solved the problem then it’s necessary. As stated before, make sure all of your Opera browsing data is backed up before trying this solution.
If you haven’t already backed-up all of your browser data from the steps at the beginning, make sure you do so before this solution. This will ensure you don’t lose your bookmarks, history, etc.
So, those are a few solutions to fix Opera when it stops working or responding. Remember to regularly check for updates and keep your data backed up. If your browser is crashing, then follow this guide to fix Opera if it keeps crashing in Windows.
