What happens when you reset the PRAM on a Mac?
When you reset the PRAM or NVRAM, your computer restores the default settings for your hardware and sets the internal hard drive as the startup disk. Performing a reset requires you to shut down your computer. While booting, hold down the “Command-Option-P-R” keys immediately after you turn on your computer.
How do I reset my SMC and PRAM?
To start:
- Shut down the computer.
- Press the power button.
- Immediately after, press Command, Option, P, and R all at the same time on the keyboard.
- Hold these keys down until you hear the Mac’s startup sound for a second time (the first was after the initial press of the power button).
- Release all of the keys.
