Scams
We have been made aware of fraudulent activity affecting international students who have a visa for the UK.
Students affected have received calls from callers claiming to be from the embassy or the UK Visa and Immigration to say that there is a problem with their UK visa and payment is requested to rectify the problem.
The fraudsters will usually have personal details such as your name, telephone number, passport details etc.
The embassy of your country or the UK Visa and Immigration will not contact you to request for payments. Please do not make any payments in response to these calls.
If you are contacted, you should attempt to end the phone call as soon as you can once you have established that it is a fraudulent call.
In order to remain vigilant, please read and acquaint yourself with the Student Financial Support team's advice on avoiding fraud and scams.
