We want our researchers to excel in their work. To support this we provide a variety of training with plenty of opportunities for development, including:
Principal Investigator Development Programme
Two times a year Organisational Development runs the PI Development Programme. This consists of approx. 6 days development over the course of a few months focusing on the role of the PI as a leader and manager and their responsibilities under The Concordat.
It is designed for PIs early into their role managing a team. Participants are nominated by their Faculty, therefore, if you are interested please have an initial conversation with your Faculty Research Manager. For more information about the programme go to the Learning Management System.
Concordat Supporting Career Development
The Concordat is an agreement between the funders and employers of researchers in the UK. It sets out the expectations and responsibilities of each stakeholder in researcher careers.
Their aim is to increase the attractiveness and sustainability of research careers within the UK. To improve the quantity, quality and impact of research for the benefit of UK society and the economy.
Newcastle University is proud to support the career development of our Researchers. Our commitment to this important agenda has been recognised by The European Commission with the HR Excellence in Research award. We have held this as a Cohort 1 participant since 2010 (Cohort 1). This award has been superseded by the revised Concordat for the Career Development of Researchers. Our VC signed this in 2019 (Concordat Letter of Commitment).
