Although these two terms may seem similar, there are some noteworthy differences between the two.

What is a Link?

In the world of the internet, a link is simply a reference from one Word or HTML document to another. A link can be text, an image, an email address, etc. In more technical terms, it is a basic HTML tag that is used to “link” two pages together. For example, if you were to click on a link, you’ll be taken to that particular page.

When a link is created, it will appear in the browser as plain text and clicking it would take the user directly to page identifies by the link. The use of the link allows visitors to access specific pages and URLs with just one click.

What is a Hyperlink?

Hyperlinks (also known as hypertext) are similar to Links but have an extra layer of functionality. Unlike Links, a Hyperlink can contain text, images, and other multimedia elements. In addition to this, a Hyperlink can also include instructions for how the user should interact with the link. For example, a Hyperlink can instruct the user to hover the mouse on the link to activate it.

Hyperlinks can be used to direct the user to any forms of online content. Additionally, more advanced controls can be used in a Hyperlink such as changing colors, adding sound effects, and so forth. This allows web designers to provide subtle cues to the user about the different kind of links and how to interact with them.
