The Bruce Building at no. 115 Percy Street, Newcastle, was built 1896-1900 Joseph Oswald, as offices for Newcastle Breweries.[1] It was part of a larger brewery complex at the Haymarket dating from the mid 19th century.[2] The building was purchased by Kings College of Durham University in the 1950’s, it then became part of Newcastle University in 1963. After a period of disuse, the building was sold to Michigan Investments in 2013. The building was redeveloped for mixed use, providing 57 apartments, a restaurant, and 4,000 sq ft of office space. The Bruce Building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.

The Bruce Building is named after John Bruce. The site of the building was previously the location of the Percy Street Academy, Newcastle’s first college, founded in 1806 by John Bruce. Its former pupils included the famous engineer Robert Stephenson.
