What is the DuPont Schedule?

The DuPont schedule is a type of work schedule commonly used in shift work environments. It allows companies to operate around the clock by dividing employees into three groups and assigning them to work different shifts. Under the DuPont schedule, employees work 12-hour shifts for a set number of days, followed by several days off. This pattern is often called several names, including the “rotating swing shift” because employees rotate between day and night shifts. The DuPont schedule is popular in manufacturing, transportation, and healthcare industries, where continuous operations are required. It is named after the DuPont Corporation, which introduced the schedule in the 1950s.
