Marcella Samora is a name that is known around the world as the mother of the late Tejano music icon, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. Marcella was born in the United States to a Texan father and a Coloradan mother.
Marcella's husband Abraham Quintanilla is a singer-songwriter himself, gave all his children music training and formed a group named Selena y Los Dinos around his three children. Selena quickly became the breakout star of the group and went on to become one of the most celebrated Latin music artists of all time.

It was in Washington that Marcella's life took a fateful turn. She crossed paths with Abraham Quintanilla Jr., who was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord during his military service. Their love story culminated in a beautiful union on June 8, 1963.
The couple welcomed their first child, Abraham "A.B." Quintanilla III, into the world on December 13 of the same year. Shortly after, Abraham completed his military service, and the family embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Corpus Christi, Texas.

The couple's second child, Suzette Michelle, was born on June 29, 1967. However, the musical journey faced its ups and downs, leading to the eventual disbandment of Los Dinos in 1974. The early 1970s saw the Samora-Quintanilla family relocating to Lake Jackson, Texas, where Abraham transitioned to regular jobs to support his growing family.
In 1970, a medical scare shook the family as Marcella was diagnosed with a tumour. The revelation of her pregnancy and the birth of their daughter, Selena, on April 16, 1971, was a momentous turn of events. It was in the hospital room that the name "Selena" was recommended, marking the beginning of a legend.

The Tragic End The Murder of Marcella Samora's Daughter Selena
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, tragedy struck the Quintanilla family when they discovered the dark side of someone they had known for years. Yolanda Saldívar, a self-proclaimed fan of Selena and the president of her fan club, was revealed to be embezzling money from the fan club and boutiques. Confronted about her actions, Saldívar resorted to violence.
On March 31, 1995, at the tender age of 23, Selena's life was tragically cut short when Saldívar fatally shot her. Marcella Samora and her family were devastated by the loss, but they were determined to seek justice for their beloved daughter and sister. Their efforts bore fruit when Saldívar was sentenced to life in prison in October 1995, with the possibility of parole after 30 years.
