David Dewhurst Biography

David Dewhurst is an American businessman and politician. He is also the former Lieutenant Governor of Texas. He served as a governor from 2003 to 2015. He is also the first Republican to get on that position since Reconstruction in 1863. He won the election for lieutenant governor in 2002, 2006, and 2010.

Dewhurst ran alongside Ted Cruz for US Senate in 2012. After defeating several candidates for the position, David was defeated by Ted Cruz in the primary runoff. The Texan Republican battled to be the lieutenant governor of Texas again but was defeated massively by Dan Patrick.

The early life of David Dewhurst

David Dewhurst was born on August 18, 1945, in Houston, Texas, in the USA. David's father, David Dewhurst Jr, was a World War II pilot.

He led a squadron on Utah beaches bombing the Germans. After the war, David Dewhurst Jr. was killed by a drunk driver.

David Dewhurst's mother, Martha Harris Dewhurst Nevins Wing, died at the age of 84 on June 1, 2004. She died of a long term illness.

David Dewhurst also has a brother named Eugene Dewhurst.

The Texan governor graduated from the Lamar High School in Houston. He completed his undergraduate at the University of Arizona, in Tucson, Arizona. His major was English with History as a minor. He also played basketball in college.
