Early Life & Education

Conchata Ferrell was born as Conchata Galen Ferrell on March 28, 1943, in Loudendale, West Virginia, United States.

She was raised by her parents Luther Martin Ferrell and Mescal Loraine Ferrell in Charleston, West Virginia. The family later moved to Circleville, Ohio.

Conchata studied at West Virginia University for two years and then dropped out. She later attended Marshall University where she received a degree in history.

Career Trajectory & Success as an Actress

Conchata first performed on stage in a skit comedy and musical production, , at Marshall in 1969.

She then became a member of the Circle Repertory Company, appearing in the Off-Broadway cast of a play by Lanford Wilson.
