Michael-Leon Wooley was born on 29th March 1971, in Fairfax, Virginia, United States. He holds the American nationality and belongs to American-African ethnicity.

He is one of three kids of George Wooley and Winnie Wooley. He grew up with his twin brother Marcus-Leon and younger brother George Jr. in Bowie, Maryland. He wanted to be a classical concert pianist when he was five years old.

Michael grew interest in the theater and the dramatic arts and even participate in the high school production. He got an opportunity to study at the in Washington, D.C., but wanted to study acting and turned it down.

He was awarded a full scholarship in in New York City. He studied for a year in the academy.
