After completing his high school, Maureen Orth attended and graduated from the University of California in Berkeley, in 1964. After graduation, she joined and served the Peace Corps in Medellin Columbia from 1964 to 1966.

Orth completed her Master's degree from UCLA in Journalism and Documentary film.

Maureen Orth was previously married to the late Tim Russert. Russert was a television journalist and lawyer who appeared on NBC’s for 16 years.

Maureen met Tim at the 1980 Democratic National Convention and quickly fell in love. They tied the knot in December 1983 and had one child together.

Their son, Luke Russert is a Boston College graduate and was NBC News and MSNBC’s correspondent.

Orth and Russert were married for 24 years before Russert died from a heart attack on June 13, 2008.
