Shannyn received her formal education from . She took dancing classes while she was there.  She graduated from there in 1995.

After her graduation, she moved to Los Angeles and began taking further dancing lessons.

Shannyn Sossamon's personal life

In 2002, Shannyn was involved in a romantic relationship with Dallas Clayton, who is an author and illustrator. The couple is parents, to a child, a son named Audio Science Clayton. Sadly, they could not hold their relationship any longer and broke up in 2004.

Shannyn remained single for several years. But in mid-2011, pictures of her baby bump appeared in the media. She gave birth to her second child Mortimer in March 2012, however, she is yet to reveal the identity of her second child. 

Though she is yet to reveal the identity of her son's father, in 2015, she gushed that she is having a serious relationship with Mortimer's father.
