Stephen has three younger siblings. He has two sisters, Isabel Beatty, and Ella Beatty, and a brother Benjamin Beatty.

Beatty attended and graduated from a private liberal arts college in Yonkers, New York, named Sarah Lawrence College.

He transitioned from a girl to a boy in his early teens at the age of 14 in 2006 and continued to undergo hormone therapy many years after.

He also calls himself a transfeminist and has blasted celebrities like Chaz Bono for being a misogynist.
