Guide for Dance Central: Spotlight

Guide for Dance Central: Spotlight

Walkthrough

Remember that this walkthrough is only using the base game songs, and no DLC. The list of songs can be found on the Hints and Tips page.

So here we go. Upon launching and starting the game, you are immediately put into the introduction/tutorial to Dance Central: Spotlight. Upon completion of this, you will unlock:

To unlock the following achievement, you need to have the game sign you in automatically via Kinect recognition. So make sure you're not signed in at this point, load up the game and go to the sign in area. When it brings up your profile to sign in, click "I wasn't recognised". When the Kinect sees you, click That's Me, and you should unlock:

Daily Achievement

This achievement is extremely buggy, and requires you to play Dance Central: Spotlight every day for a week. The game is pretty useless when it comes to tracking your progress, and I found that the only way it was tracking days was to go to the Workout tile from the main menu, and to find where it says how many consecutive days I've played. But even then it was flaky and the game wouldn't properly acknowledge when one day had ended and another had started. So if you wish to try and do this online, properly, you're in for a bumpy ride. Or there is the following workaround to to the achievement offline:

  1. Go to your console's Network Settings, and set it to go offline.
  2. Hard reset your Xbox, so that when it boots up, it's still offline. (Or, if you can, completely disconnect it from the internet!)
  3. Now, you'll be able to change the system date from the System Settings.
  4. So set it back 7 days.
  5. Then load up Dance Central: Spotlight and dance one full routine.
  6. Go back to the main menu and quit the game.
  7. Change the date forward one day.
  8. Repeat steps 5 to 7 until you have done 7 days worth of routines. (You'll know when you have a record of 7 days, as the game will tell you so on the main menu).
  9. Once that's been clarified, reconnect your xbox to the internet.
  10. Re-open Dance Central: Spotlight and hopefully the achievement will pop. If not, try doing another routine.

This method isn't 100% foolproof and can fail. So you'll just have to keep trying. Once you do have the streak and the game acknowledges it, you'll unlock:

Collecting Moves

From here on out, we will be focusing on completing dances and collecting all the moves. Moves are collected by mirroring the actions that the dancer does, and achieving a Flawless rating. You only need to perform a Flawless rating once to collect a move. For every new move you collect, there will be a gold flash around the dance character. You will be able to tell how accurate you are to the dancer by looking at the circle around their feet. The closer the inner circle is to the outer circle, the better you are at that move. To get a Flawless rating, the inner circle must be in the same place as the outer one. Once you have collected a move, every time it appears in the game, the picture on the right hand side of the screen will be gold.

So for the next achievement, pick a song and put it on Beginner difficulty. Keep going with a song until you collect a move to unlock:

If you are having a lot of trouble collecting a move, say "Hey DJ, practice that!" during a song. The game will then rewind to the last four moves you've done, and you can practice them over and over until you feel comfortable. To go back to the dance routine, say "Hey DJ, got that!". The routine will pick up from where the practice bit was, and you can continue on your way collecting moves. This is especially useful when going for the achievement to collect every move in the game!

As you complete songs and collect moves, you will eventually unlock:

and

and

and

This is by far the longest and most time consuming achievement in the game. Make sure to utilise the information in the message box above, along with the following information.

You can quit out of a song, and any moves you that you have collected will count towards the achievement. So for example, if you only need one move from a certain song, you can play up to the point where that move is, collect it, then you can quit the game. However, the achievement will only unlock after the last song you have to collect moves from. So when you get to that point, make sure to complete the song.

When you have collected every move in a single song you will unlock the following achievement. The easiest song I found to do this on was Rihanna's Diamonds.

Unlocking Different Routines

Each song has eight different routines, all but one needing to be unlocked by collecting moves in that song. The menu for that song will tell you have many move you need to unlock a specific routine.

This achievement is fairly straight forward, play all ten base songs on Beginner to unlock:

This would also be a good time to get the following achievement for playing with one character. So pick one and stick with it while playing all ten songs on beginner to unlock:

Standard Routines only require a few moves to unlock, and once you have unlocked one, you'll unlock:

Followed by this achievement for unlocking all ten standard routines.

A Deluxe Routine doesn't require too many moves to unlock, and can (sometimes) be done by collecting all the moves in a Beginner routine.

Once you have unlocked all Deluxe routines, you'll unlock:

The Pro routines are usually the last to unlock and require you to play through other routines (such as Standard, Cardio, Deluxe etc) to unlock it. Once you have collected enough moves, this following will unlock.

Once you have unlocked all Pro routines, you'll unlock:

You'll unlock this fairly easily, as an Alternate routine doesn't take much to unlock.

Specific Move Collection

There are specific moves that you have to collect in the game.

To collect the Crazy Hair move, you will need to play the Polished routine for the song Titanium. Once you have the move, you'll unlock:

To collect the Bromance move, play the Beginner routine for the song Royals. Doing this will unlock:

Character Based Achievements

For this achievement, play any song with a Cardio Routine with Emilia ten times to unlock this achievement. The same song can be repeated over and over, and you don't have to be perfect, but remember that for this achievement (and any other character based achievement), you do need to collect all the moves within a routine.

The only song in the base game that has a Serious Routine is Pharrell William's Happy. This routine is the last alternate one to unlock, so you will have to play through the song a few times to unlock it. Make sure to play this song with Mo.

As with the Breathless achievement, you can repeat the same song ten times to unlock this achievement. All the base songs have a Strength Routine, so pick one with Bodie as the character. After the tenth time, you'll unlock:

Rihanna's Diamonds and Pharrell William's Happy both have a Polished routine, and this routine will unlock when you beat the song on the Beginner. So pick either song and Taye as the character to unlock:

I personally found the Goofy routines to be the most awkward to do. Talk Dirty has a Goofy routine, which is unlocked after beating the Beginner routine. Make sure to have Glitch as the character to unlock:

Show Me has a Classic routine, which is unlocked after beating it on beginner. Make sure to have Aubrey as your character to unlock:

This is a long achievement, but fairly easy, despite it's ratio. We're going to select Rihanna's Diamonds for the song, and we'll be using the Beginner Routine. There's only four moves in this song and they're fairly easy. You'll need to get the song completely perfect to get the Gold Stars required, so if you're not getting there, just keep trying as practice makes perfect! Play this song six times, once with each character, and you'll unlock:

with the following achievement along the way for playing the same song three times in a row:

Miscellaneous Achievements

You'll unlock this achievement (if you haven't already) by selecting a song, going to the second tab called Characters, and selecting any of the dancers that isn't the one you already have selected. You don't need to play the song to unlock this.

To get Gold stars, almost all of your moves have to have a Flawless Rating. The easiest songs to do this on is I Wish and Diamonds. Make sure it's on Deluxe or Pro difficulty. This achievement will require some practice, and remember to use the DJ Practice if you're struggling. Once you've got the gold stars for a song, you'll unlock:

The easiest song to do this on is I Wish. Make sure it's on Deluxe or Pro difficulty. Keep dancing and when you see that you have a 32x multiplier, you'll unlock:

Once you've unlocked the Strength Routine for Talk Dirty, you can go for this achievement. The routine itself isn't particularly hard to get 3 stars in. Keep practicing if you're finding it hard, and eventually you'll unlock:

Every straightforward achievement, play 100 routines. They can be the same routines over and over if you wish. I'd recommend not actively going for this, as you'll probably get it will going for all the other achievements.

"Multiplayer" Achievements

The following two achievements require the use of another human being.

Fairly straightforward, dance with another person.

Freestyle is the section of the dance where you're given no moves to follow and you can do what you want. You and your partner can randomly dance for this achievement to unlock.

I'm unable to verify if two gamertags will unlock this achievement at the same time
