Giveon Dezmann Evans was born in Long Beach, California, on February 21, 1995.
He and his two brothers were raised by their mom, who he credits with encouraging his passion for music and keeping them safe from the pressures of society in a low-income area.
Evans says that his mom kept him and his siblings protected from the pressures of gang culture, and was hard on her kids to be sure they stayed in school and aimed higher than what was going on around them.
Giveon says the middle school was awkward. The beautiful singing voice he’d always used at birthday parties, and impromptu shows at home was changing. “It was baritone [and] I had no idea how to use it.”
He attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School, and then enrolled at the Grammy Museum for a music education program when he turned 18. It was here that he discovered Frank Sinatra—a baritone like him. He says that voice was inspiring to his teenaged self.
He gained confidence with his voice, and the rest was history.
