Professional Background

Dr. Carlyle Dunshee, II, MD, FACS, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Division Chief of the Bariatric Surgery Division at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Dunshee was born and raised in Fort Scott, Kansas. He attended Duke University, graduating with honors in Zoology. He attended the University of Kansas, School of Medicine, graduating in 1995. Following this, he completed a six-year General Surgery training program at The Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University. During that time, he also completed his Master of Business Administration at East Carolina University as well.
Dr. Dunshee joined our faculty in 2017, and he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. His clinical interests include Bariatric and Metabolic surgery for the treatment of obesity and its effects. His practice consists of a broad range of general surgery, but he also has a special interest in Minimally Invasive and Laparoscopic Surgery, including treatment of hiatal hernia, GERD, and other surgery of the foregut.
