AEW star Lio Rush has confirmed that he sustained a nasty injury while performing in PRG's recent Battle Of Los Angeles tournament.
Rush took to Twitter to reveal a few details about the injury, which occurred during his match with fellow-former WWE Superstar Buddy Matthews on the second night of the tournament. Rush won the match via disqualification but was unable to proceed in the tournament after being rushed to the hospital. His spot was taken by Matthews.
“Clean dislocation in my left shoulder,” Rush tweeted. “(Opposite to my previous shoulder injury). MRI in 2-3 weeks to hopefully find that there’s no severe ligament damage/tear.”
Lio also addressed a certain subsection of the PWG fanbase who hurled racially insensitive insults at him while he was in the ring. Legendary SoCal-based indie promotion PWG is known for its rowdy and excitable fans, but a few of the company's recent live events have been plagued by racist and homophobic jeers from some fans. This should go without saying, but racism, homophobia, transphobia, and any other form of bigotry have absolutely no place in wrestling.
Rush said he was "saddened" by hate the hate speech but added that nothing will diminish his love of wrestling.
As we previously covered, Rush will part ways with AEW when his current contract expires on February 22. Rush signed with AEW last September and debuted a short-lived crypto bro gimmick.
Lio Rush began wrestling in 2014 and made a name for himself as an exciting high-flyer. After a stint on the independent scene, Rush signed for WWE in August 2017. He initially reported for duty at NXT but was soon moved to the Cruiserweight division where he competed on 205 Live. Rush was then moved to the main roster and was used predominantly as the mouthpiece of Bobby Lashley. He moved back to NXT and had a run as Cruiserweight champion, but in April 2020, Rush was released from his WWE contract as part of budget cuts stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
