Sha’Carri Richardson has become America’s fastest woman, and she made headlines after qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.

Richardson won the women’s 100m race at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Oregon, in 10.86 seconds, securing her spot on Team USA at the age of 21.

But the most interesting fact about Sha’Carri is her decision to keep her charm while on the tracks. She prefers to run while her makeup, nails and hair are done like some American slay queen.

1, Sha’Carri Richardson’s biological mother died a week before her biggest race

Richardson told NBC after the race that the year had been “crazy” for her, and that her biological mother had passed away just a week before the race. Richardson was determined to achieve her goals and make her family, whom she referred to as “my everything,” proud.

“My family has kept me grounded. This year has been crazy for me going from just last week losing my biological mother and I’m still here,” she said. “My biological mother passed away and I’m still choosing to pursue my dreams, still coming out here, still making sure to make the family that I do still have on this earth proud.”

“My family is my everything,” Richardson shared. “My everything until the day I’m done.”

2, Sha’Carri Richardson started running when in High School

Before attending Louisiana State University, Richardson was a track and field star at Carter High School in Dallas, Texas.

She won the 2019 NCAA title in a college record time of 10.75 seconds during her freshman year at LSU. She was named SEC freshman track athlete of the year and received the Bowerman Award, collegiate track and field’s highest honour, in 2019.

Richardson announced on social media in June 2019 that she would be finishing her track and field career at LSU and embarking on a career as a professional athlete.
