KANSAS City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a word for his doubters after winning a third Super Bowl in five years.

The 28-year-old play-caller led the Chiefs to a nerve-shredding 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Mahomes threw for 333 yards, 2 touchdowns, and one interception in the dramatic overtime win.

It sealed his place among an elite group of quarterbacks - including Tom Brady and Terry Bradshaw. - to have won at least three rings.

The Chiefs went into the game as slight underdogs, having played a game more than the No. 1 seeded 49ers in the NFL playoffs.

But Mahomes has proved the X-factor on his team throughout the season, especially when his own receivers were struggling for form.

Following the win, he had a clear message for those who had doubted the Chiefs could defend the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

"The Kansas City Chiefs are never underdogs. Remember that," he told reporters.

Fans were quick to respond to Mahomes' declaration, which came after he secured a third-career Super Bowl MVP.

"That’s what we’ve been trying to say," laughed one Chiefs fan on X.

"Love his confidence. He is a good role model for the future generations," said another.

"They were only underdogs in sportsbook. Majority of analysts picked the Chiefs. The 49ers special teams were the MVP for the Chiefs," countered another.

Mahomes led a methodical drive in overtime to set up a game-winning touchdown to Mecole Hardman.

And he claimed that "falling short" in regulation time spurred the team on to get the job done.

"Our mindset was go win the game right here," Mahomes said, via ESPN.

"We fell short in regulation, we were not going to do that again.

"We're going to go out there and win the game."
