This Tower is the first Tower you will unlock in the game and serves as a tutorial of sorts. Through completing this Tower you will learn about scaling and activating Towers, and you will learn that this is the only way to fill out your Sheikah Slate map.
The Great Plateau Tower is a mandatory part of the main quest and is the end goal of the quest Follow the Sheikah Slate. To reveal the Tower you must go to the location marked on your map and search the bottom of the hill. This will cause the Tower to rise from the ground. Then simply press [A] at the pedestal in front of you and you will receive a map of the Great Plateau region.
