Tokyo Jungle allows players to take over various animals in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo. With each animal comes various strengths and weaknesses. There are over 50 playable animals to choose from, from simple chickens to lions.

There are two modes to play, story and challenge mode. Each mode has its own challenges and dangers. Challenges range anywhere from just surviving a certain amount of years, to getting clean kills as a predator.
