Private life

Whoriskey was born and raised in Acton, Massachusetts. She earned a bachelor’s degree in theater from New York University’s Experimental Theater Wing in 1992, and a master’s degree in directing from Harvard University’s American Repertory Theater’s (A.R.T.) Institute for Advanced Theater Training in 1998. Whoriskey is married to Broadway actor Daniel Breaker, who played Donkey in Shrek the Musical. 1st Rory, Whoriskey and Breaker’s son, was born in 2008.

She immediately began directing a play at ART after completing her graduate program there, The Master Builder by Ibsen.

She has worked as an associate artist at South Coast Repertory in Orange County, California, and as a visiting lecturer at Princeton University. She was briefly affiliated with Seattle’s Intiman Theatre from 2010 to 2011, until it closed due to cash flow issues.
