After Michigan officials discovered negligence in his handling of a dog hit by a car in 2015, he became embroiled in a dispute and had his license placed on probation. The doctor was ultimately cleared of all charges after the dog’s owners argued that their pet had gotten excellent care.

Regarding his private life, it is known that Dr. Jan has been wed to Diane for more than 50 years; the two fell in love while he was a high school exchange student. She formerly worked as a schoolteacher and holds a master’s degree in special reading. He firmly supports the spaying and neutering of animals. He is also involved with a number of charitable groups like FFA (Future Farmers of America) and 4-H, which educate young folks on how to properly care for animals.

He also enjoys collecting cars, and his collection includes a 1981 DeLorean that was made famous by the movie “Back to the Future,” a 1999 Plymouth Prowler, and a 1937 Rolls Royce. They also live in a log cabin and have several more animals as well. He and his wife frequently visit a number of places, including the Caribbean and other spots in Europe, while he is not at work. He supports the Dutch national team and enjoys watching European football.
