ITV’s Technical Director for Sport was Roger Pearce. It was revealed on Monday, November 21, 2022, that the ITV Technical Director and former Operations Manager had died in Qatar, where he was in charge of covering the FIFA World Cup. Roger had been working for ITV for more than 40 years and was about to retire. He has also contributed to a variety of sports, including F1, the WRC, the BTCC, the UEFA Champions League, racing, the FA Cup, and England’s national football team.
He began working for the Network in the late 1970s as a broadcast engineer, moving up to broadcast engineer/supervisor after almost ten years. Early in the 1990s, Roger rose to the position of Head of Operations, which he maintained until 2001 when he was promoted to Technical Producer, Sport. Roger worked as the operations manager from June 2004 to August 2007 before moving on to become the technical director of sport till his passing in November 2022.
