He is also the son of Jewish parents, Maurice Harvey Halperin (father) and Rose Rusen Halperin (mother), who ran a slaughterhouse (mother). Hall is of white ancestry and is of Canadian-American nationality. He went to Lord Selkirk School before moving on to St. John’s High School. He also graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and zoology.
