Tristan Thompson was born on March 13, 1991, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as the oldest of four sons to Jamaican parents Trevor and Andrea Thompson. Tristan’s relationship with then-St. Benedict coach Dan Hurley hit a rough patch 21 games into his junior year. Hurley’s abrasive coaching style started to wear on the young basketball player. Hurley confronted Thompson during a time out during a game against top-ranked Mater Hei, resulting in a heated argument and Thomas being sent off the court. He was later removed from the team, but over the next few days, he was vocal about his intention to leave, resulting in a barrage of calls from top prep schools across the country looking to acquire the young star’s skills.
